Week 6

This week was a research and exploration week for me. After being introduced to the new project brief on Monday, I took the next several days to focus on my ideas. I began by looking at all the SDGs and picking the one that stood out the most to me and aligned with my key values. This led me to goal 15, life on land. I felt very connected to this goal and began t research different ways I could make this goal into a project. After considering the tools in the tech lab and my research, I settled on an idea using a robotic arm. I want to create a piece using the arm that represents the goal I chose. In researching similar works, I came across one of my favourite art pieces: Can’t Help Myself by Sun Yuan and Peng Yu. I love this piece and felt that it could be a good base for my ideas to come off of.

After finding an idea for my project, I started to look at different things the arm could move and place. This led me to thinking of symbols/ logos that could represent the targets of goal 15. I felt a tree could represent deforestation, an animal could be used for poaching, etc. I still need to think of different ways the robot can place these but I am happy with my initial ideas.
