Week 2

I started this week by finishing last week’s puzzle set, as well as the new ones assigned on Monday. I enjoy the small challenges as they prepare me for the week ahead and allow me to think algorithmically. I also completed the weekly reading on silicon atoms, covalent bonds, semiconductors, and related topics. This reading was incredibly useful for the workshops this week, as I had a firmer understanding of the topics we covered.

The soldering workshop on Wednesday was something I felt very scared to attempt but thoroughly enjoyed. I have never attempted it before, but I found it wasn’t as hard as I had imagined it to be. Below are some pictures of my first time soldering:

On Thursday, we had a very insightful lecture by Leanna Lucas from Aviva. This was a great introduction to someone who works in the tech industry day to day. She introduced us to some working styles that tech companies typically use and the mindsets we should have going forward.

After the lecture, I attended the vice chancellor’s talk by Sarah Atkinson. This was an incredible talk on women in the technology sector and how most, if not all, have been written over and forgotten. I really enjoyed this talk and wrote down many books I hope to read that were mentioned by Atkinson. Overall, I gained a lot of knowledge about female role models in the tech sector and women who have made huge contributions to technology as we know it.
