Ava W - Developer Journal
Week 1
The first week of second year began with me completing the reading for the week – a chapter on electricity and electronics. This initial reading was incredibly useful for my understanding of the work in Monday’s session.
Wednesday’s need-to-know session allowed me to reflect on my goals for the year and helped me consider what motivators I might use for the coming year. It was also great to focus on what I can do outside of workshops to help my academic performance.
Wednesday and Thursday were both days that we worked on the University’s Make It Manifest(o). After Wednesday’s session on projection mapping, I went home and researched the manifest examples we were shown. I looked at summaries of these writings to gain insights into what feelings are evoked. This helped me to answer the questions on what I wanted to get out of this year’s manifesto. I felt that it was important to me to elicit feelings and make an impact with my work, as well as to represent core beliefs I have. I then decided to look at some examples of projection mapping using the same program we had been using – images below. This helped visualise what can be done with the tools we have to use.

I really enjoyed trying out a new creative tech medium and gaining a basic understanding of a new program. The combination of creating an idea to project and thinking of different surfaces to use was particularly enjoyable. I liked experimenting with different combinations on MadMapper and creating unique scenes that represented my Manifest(o) beliefs. My projection mapping experimentation and final project are shown below:
