Week 15

Research

I began this week by reading Part 1: Unity Fundamentals in Hardman, C. (2023), Game Programming with Unity and C#: A Complete Beginner’s Guide. This section offered a clear and accessible introduction to the Unity development environment, which was especially helpful as I was new to the platform. Through this reading, I became familiar with key components of the Unity Editor, including the Scene view, Game view, Hierarchy, Inspector, and Project panels. I also learned how to navigate the workspace, organise game objects, and begin working with basic assets and scripts. This foundation allowed me to approach Unity projects with more confidence and a better understanding of how the different elements interact within a game engine. Following this introduction, we were shown the XR project we would be working on.

Workshop

We also had a 3D scanning workshop this week, where I learned how to capture real-world objects digitally using various tools.

Lecture

To complement the technical aspects of game development, we had a pre-recorded mathematics lecture that introduced essential concepts relevant to game physics, such as vectors and spatial transformations. These sessions collectively helped me develop a strong foundational skill set for building interactive and visually rich digital experiences using Unity.
