Weeks 21, 22, + 23

Week 21 marks the beginning of the new unit, BSc2b, a group project. The first three weeks of this project were spent by my group researching and developing our ideas. We decided early on that we wanted to focus on the natural world and have our project be environmentally based. Whilst developing our ideas, we did run into a few communication issues, which led to people’s ideas getting forgotten or ignored. I wasn’t part of the decision-making of our project, as we miscommunicated when we would decide our final idea. This meant I joined a session thinking we were developing ideas, only to be told that we had already picked and were working on aspects of it.  We managed to fix this when we started developing ideas further along and found that we could combine what everyone wanted into our project. In these first weeks, I slightly took on the role of project manager, as I wanted to establish a good base to build from.

I also began my initial research for the project report proposal. My ideas changed a lot over these three weeks as I went back and forth between a technical and an extended essay approach. Ultimately, I decided on an extended essay as I felt I would have a hard time finding a way to judge the success of a project. I originally looked at working with a local company to create an instillation of some kind, but after looking through Instagram, I found a dress that sparked my imagination. It was a dress that had moving parts attached to it, which moved the fabric around like tentacles. This then founded the rest of my research, and I shifted my focus onto e-textiles.
